About The WellNurse

Mission & Vision

The WellNurse was born out of the desire to shift the way we handle health care in our current model. Health is individual, we all have our own health stories - a series of experiences and events that have led us to our current health circumstances. My mission is to put the focus on the individual back into health care, looking not only at a diagnosis or a single symptom, but at you - the individual - as a whole.

A Little About Me & How I Got Here

Hi! I am so glad you are here and interested in what The WellNurse has to offer you on your health and wellness journey. A little background about me, I have been a Registered Nurse for nearly 9 years. All my life I have had an interest in health and wellness, I have always been an empathetic individual with a deep curiosity for how the body works. Nursing offered me the priviledge of putting both those passions to use in a deeply rewarding career.

Over the past couple of years through a series of my own health circumstances, providing nursing care through a pandemic, and watching the world change around me in numerous stressful ways - I felt like I needed to be doing something more. I noticed a gap in our current care model, due to an increasingly high patient volume and low physician availability - there is often only enough time to narrow in on a symptom or set of symptoms, and order a treatment or follow up exam. What about time for the big picture? As a person who needs to know why something is happening, or how it works - I started to dive into my own symptoms and found a wealth of information around a functional approach to care. This model looks at the whole person, from birth to present circumstances along a timeline - asking not only about symptoms, but about quality of life, daily habits around nutrition and movement, happy and stressful life events along the way, and so much more. I knew I had to find a way to bring this to health care in Nova Scotia.

I wanted to find a way that I could blend functional care and nursing care, this is when I found nurse coaching. A nurse coach uses a number of skills to really hear their clients health story, I do not want to know just the name of your diagnosis or your symptom, I want to know what it means to you, how is it impacting your life, what can we do to help you create changes around it.

Long story short I spent a year with my head in the books, I have obtained training in Holistic Nurse Coaching through the Integrated Nurse Coach Academy (INCA), both foundational education and practical hours providing nurse coaching care. Additionally, I have completed the INCA Functional Medicine for Nurses course, as well as completed the Institute for Functional Medicine's Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice Course.

Now that I have completed these courses I am excited, and confident in my ability to offer my clients a service where they can be given the time to be heard, deeply understood, guided to uncover and understand their health story, and be supported to set health goals that are unique to their needs, work with and around barriers to attaining those goals, and find their way to their vision of holistic health and wellness.
